Chanukah - 25 KISLEV

25 Kislev 5774
According to Jewish tradition:
"On the twenty-fifth day of Kislev,
the days of the Chanukah festival begin.
There are eight days,
during which eulogies for the dead and
fasting are prohibited.
When the Greeks entered the Temple,
they defiled all the oil stored in it.
After the Hasmoneans had established their rule
and prevailed, they searched and found
a single cruse of oil,
still sealed with the seal of the High Priest.
But there was only enough oil
to last for one day.
A miracle occurred,
and the supply lasted for eight days.
In the following year,
they appointed these days
as festival days, with the
[recitation of] Hallel and
with thanksgiving."

"For You will light my lamp;
The LORD my God will
enlighten my darkness."
Psalm 18:28

LIGHT - Kislev 24, 5774

And this is the condemnation
that the light has come into the world,
and men loved darkness rather than light,
because their deeds were evil.
For everyone practicing evil hates the light
and does not come to the light,
lest his deeds should be exposed.
But he who does the truth
comes to the light,
that his deeds may be clearly seen,
that they have been done in God.

JOHN 3:19-21

Hallelujah - Kislev 23, 5774

Psalm 150

"Praise the LORD!

Praise God in His sanctuary;
Praise Him in His mighty firmament!

Praise Him for His mighty acts;
Praise Him according to
His excellent greatness!

Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet;
Praise Him with the lute and harp!
Praise Him with the timbrel and dance;
Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes!
Praise Him with loud cymbals;
Praise Him with clashing cymbals!

Let everything that has breath
praise the LORD.

Praise the LORD!"

"And I heard, as it were,
the voice of a great multitude,
as the sound of many waters
and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying,

'Alleluia!  For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns!

Let us be glad and rejoice
and give Him glory,
for the marriage of the Lamb has come,
and His wife has made herself ready.'"
Revelation 19:6-7

WOUNDED - Kislev 21, 5774

Surely He has borne our griefs and
carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
smitten by God, and afflicted.
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace
was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
Isaiah 53:4-5

Almond - Kislev 20, 5774

"Moreover the word of the LORD came to me saying,
'Jeremiah, what do you see?'
And I said,
'I see a branch of an almond tree.'
Then the LORD said to me,
'You have seen well,
for I am ready to perform My word.'"

In Remembrance of Me - Kislev 19, 5774

"For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you:
that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed
took bread;
and when He had given thanks,
He broke it and said,
'Take, eat, this is My body which is broken for you;
do this in remembrance of Me.'
In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying,
'This cup is the new covenant in My blood,
This do, as often as you drink it,
in remembrance of Me.'
For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup,
you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes."
I Corinthians 11:23-26

He Will Bring Forth - Kislev 18, 5774

"For there is hope for a tree,
if it is cut down,
that it will sprout again,
And that its tender shoots
will not cease.
Though its root may grow old in the earth,
and its stump may die in the ground,
yet at the scent of water it will bud
and bring forth branches like a plant."
Job 14:7-9
"Behold!  My Servant whom I uphold,
My Elect One in whom My soul delights!
I have put My Spirit upon Him;
He will bring forth justice
to the Gentiles.
He will not cry out, nor raise His voice,
nor cause His voice to be heard
in the street.
A bruised reed He will not break,
and smoking flax He will not quench;
He will bring forth justice for truth.
He will not fail nor be discouraged,
Till He has established justice
in the earth;
and the coastlands shall wait for His law."
Isaiah 42:1-4
"And the apostles said to the Lord,
'Increase our faith.'
So the Lord said,
"If you have faith as a mustard seed,
you can say to this mulberry tree,
'Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,'
and it would obey you.""
Luke 17:5-6

Yet I Will Rejoice - Kislev 17, 5774

"Though the fig tree may not blossom,
Nor fruit be on the vines;
Though the labor of the olive may fail,
And the fields yield no food;
Though the flock may be cut off from the fold,
And there be no herd in the stalls -
Yet I will rejoice in the LORD,
I will joy in the God of my salvation.
The LORD God is my strength;
He will make my feet like deer's feet,
And He will make me walk on my high hills."
Habakkuk 3:17-19

 "Rejoice in the Lord always.
Again I will say, rejoice!"
Philippians 4:4

Alas for the day! - Kislev 16, 5774

Alas for the day!
For the day of the LORD is at hand;
It shall come as destruction from the Almighty.
Is not the food cut off from before our eyes,
Joy and gladness from the house of our God?
The seed shrivels under the clods,
Storehouses are in shambles;
Barns are broken down,
For the grain has withered.
How the animals groan!
The herds of cattle are restless,
Because they have no pasture;
Even the flocks of sheep are made desolate.

JOEL 1:15-18

Little Flock - Kislev 15, 5774

Do not fear, little flock,
for it is your Father's good pleasure
to give you the kingdom.
Sell what you have and give alms;
provide yourselves money bags
which do not grow old,
a treasure in the heavens that does not fail,
where no thief approaches nor moth destroys.
For where your treasure is,
there your heart will be also.

LUKE 12:32-34

LUKEWARM - Kislev 14, 5774

"I know your works,
that you are neither cold nor hot.
I could wish you were cold or hot.
So then, because you are lukewarm,
and neither cold nor hot,
I will vomit you out of My mouth.
Because you say,
'I am rich, have become wealthy,
and have need of nothing' -
and do not know that you are wretched,
miserable, poor, blind, and naked -
I counsel you to buy from Me
gold refined in the fire,
that you may be rich;
and white garments,
that you may be clothed,
that the shame of your nakedness
may not be revealed;
and anoint your eyes with eye salve,
that you may see.
As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten.
Therefore be zealous and repent.
Behold, I stand at the door and knock.
If anyone hears My voice and opens the door,
I will come in to him
and dine with him,
and he with Me."

Revelation 3:15-20

He Died for All - Kislev 13, 5774

For the love of Christ compels us,
because we judge thus:
that if One died for all, then all died;
and He died for all,
that those who live
should live no longer for themselves,
but for Him who died for them
and rose again.
2 Corinthians 5:14-15

Just Believe - Kislev 12, 5774

" -- 'The Word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart' (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that
if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus
and believe in your heart that God
has raised Him from the dead,
you will be saved.
For with the heart one believes unto righteousness,
and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
For the Scripture says,
'Whoever believes on Him
will not be put to shame.'"
Romans 10:8b-11

"If we say that we have fellowship with Him,
and walk in darkness,
we lie and do not practice the truth.
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light,
we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son
cleanses us from all sin.
If we say that we have no sin,
we deceive ourselves,
and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins,
He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."
1 John 1:6-9

Your House - Kislev 11, 5774

Even the sparrow has found a home,
and the swallow a nest for herself,
where she may lay her young -
even Your altars, O LORD of hosts,
my King and my God.
Blessed are those who dwell in Your house;
they will still be praising You.  Selah

I will come in to him and dine with him,
and he with Me.

Capstone - Kislev 9, 5774

"This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel:
'Not by might nor by power,
but by My Spirit,'  Says the LORD of hosts.
'Who are you, O great mountain?
Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain!
And he shall bring forth the capstone
With shouts of "Grace, grace to it!'"

The cypress, the pine, and the box tree together,
To beautify the place of My sanctuary;
And I will make the place of My feet glorious.

Brokenhearted - Kislev 6, 5774

He heals the brokenhearted
And binds up their wounds.
He counts the number of the stars;
He calls them all by name.
Great is our Lord,
and mighty in power;
His understanding is infinite.

Not One is Missing - Kislev 3, 5774

"To whom then will you liken Me,
Or to whom shall I be equal?" says the Holy One.
Lift up your eyes on high,
And see who has created these things,
Who brings out their host by number;
He calls them all by name,
By the greatness of His might
And the strength of His power;
Not one is missing.
ISAIAH 40:25-26

Be Vigilant - Kislev 2, 5774

Likewise you younger people,
submit yourselves to your elders.
Yes, all of you be submissive to one another,
and be clothed with humility, for
'God resists the proud,
But gives grace to the humble.'
Therefore humble yourselves
under the mighty hand of God,
that He may exalt you in due time,
casting all your care upon Him,
for He cares for you.
Be sober,
be vigilant;
because your adversary the devil
walks about like a roaring lion,
seeking whom he may devour.
Resist him,
steadfast in the faith,
knowing that the same sufferings
are experienced by your brotherhood
in the world.
I Peter 5:5-9

Many bulls have surrounded Me;
Strong bulls of Bashan have encircled Me.
They gape at Me with their mouths,
Like a raging and roaring lion.
Psalm 22:12
At my first defense no one stood with me,
but all forsook me.
May it not be charged against them.
But the Lord stood with me
and strengthened me,
so that the message might be preached fully
through me, and that
all the Gentiles might hear.
Also I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.
And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work
and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom.
To Him be glory
forever and ever. Amen!

I Will Trust - Kislev 1, 5774

Whenever I am afraid,

I will trust in You.

In God (I will praise His word),

In God I have put my trust;  ~

Spring Forth - Heshvan 30, 5774

For as the earth brings forth its bud,
As the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth,
So the LORD God will cause
righteousness and praise
to spring forth before all the nations.
Isaiah 61:11

Alone - Heshvan 29, 5774

"I lie awake, and am like a sparrow alone on the housetop."  Psalm 102:7

"'Behold, the virgin shall be with child,
and bear a Son,
and they shall call His name Immanuel,'
which is translated,

'God with us.'"
Matthew 1:23

"For He Himself has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.'"
Hebrews 13:5b

"Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
If I ascend into heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.
If I take the wings of the morning,
And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
Even there Your hand shall lead me,
And Your right hand shall hold me.
If I say, 'Surely the darkness shall fall on me,'
Even the night shall be light about me;
Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You,
But the night shines as the day;
The darkness and the light are both alike to You."
Psalm 139:7-12

"And Jesus came and spoke to them saying,
'All authority has been given to Me
in heaven and on earth.
Go therefore and make disciples
of all the nations,
baptizing them in the name of
the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all things
that I have commanded you;

and lo, I am with you always,
even to the end of the age.'  Amen."
Matthew 28:18-20

"Listen to Me, O house of Jacob,
And all the remnant of the house of Israel,
Who have been upheld by Me from birth,
Who have been carried from the womb:
Even to your old age, I am He,
And even to gray hairs I will carry you!
I have made, and I will bear;
Even I will carry, and will deliver you."
Isaiah 46:3-4

Be Strong! - Heshvan 28, 5774

The wilderness and the wasteland shall be glad for them,
And the desert shall rejoice and blossom as the rose;
It shall blossom abundantly and rejoice,
Even with joy and singing.
The glory of Lebanon shall be given to it,
The excellence of Carmel and Sharon.
They shall see the glory of the LORD,
The excellency of our God.
Strengthen the weak hands,
And make firm the feeble knees.
Say to those who are fearful-hearted,
'Be strong, do not fear!
Behold, your God
will come with vengeance,
With the recompense of God;
He will come and save you.'

ISAIAH 35:1-4
